Faith Communities Vigil-Rally previous to COP20
On the eve of the COP20 opening, November 30, 2014, at 5:00 p.m., at La Floresta Park, Corner of Ave. Primavera and La Floresta St., Santiago de Surco (opposite the Pastry San Antonio), the religious communities of Peru will hold a vigil-rally to call on the COP20 negotiators to act with compassion and care towards all people in the world, with the participation of Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the South African group “Rose Dessert” and national singers.
The COP20: Perspectives from the South
An interdisciplinary academic event at the Antonio Ruiz de Montoya University (UARM), which belongs to the Society of Jesus, in partnership with the Inter-Religious Council of Peru – Religions for Peace and the Association of Jesuit Universities Entrusted to the Society of Jesus in Latin America (AUSJAL), will take place on December 9, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., with the participation of Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, Earth Institute Director, Columbia University, as keynote speaker. The conference will offer a meeting and reflection space to people from different national, cultural and religious backgrounds that declare committed in the search for a new way of organizing citizen coexistence that is more friendly to the environment, and in this way, contributing to the response to climatic change.
Voices of faith united in action on climate change
On December 4, at 8:00 – 10:00 p.m., it be held an open event for the general public at the Auditorium Platinum of the space “Voices for Climate”, at the Jockey Club del Peru (Entrance on Ave. El Derby), Santiago de Surco, which will include a dialogue between religious leaders and an interfaith concert.
Interfaith Prayer Service
During the COP20, on December 9, 2014, at 6:00 p.m., at the Atrium of the Basilica of San Francisco, the Interreligious Council of Peru – Religions for Peace will hold an Interfaith Prayer Service to implore for the success of the COP20 talks.
